Smart Meters

Smart meters let you know exactly how much energy you’re using, hour by hour and day by day, so they’re a great way of tracking, and reducing, your energy use.

You may have seen TV campaigns promoting the fact that you can ask your energy company for a smart meter. However, the national rollout of smart meters is not expected to be completed until 2020 as the technology is still developing.

We’ll be rolling out smart meters to our customers from early 2018. We’ll let you know by late 2017 when exactly smart meters will be available in your area.

What is a Smart Meter?

A Smart Meter is an electricity or gas meter with the ability to talk to other devices, other services and to us, your energy supplier. It will provide you with real-time information regarding your energy consumption and costs which will all be visible via your free In-Home Display. You’ll receive this on the installation day once the Smart Meter has been installed.

What are the benefits?

A Smart Meter makes your life much easier by giving you more time to spend doing the things you love.

Hate the hassle of submitting meter reads?

With a Smart Meter you’ll never have to worry about putting a reminder to submit a read or even submitting one. Your Smart Meter will automatically do this for you. This means estimated billing will be a thing of the past as we’ll be able to use your actual meter reads to provide you with an accurate bill so you’ll only pay for what you’ve used. Nothing more, nothing less.

Keep an eye on your energy costs

It’ll also allow you to monitor your energy usage  whether it’s to meet the budget target you’ve set yourself or simply just to keep an eye on your energy consumption. It’ll all be achievable as you’ll be able to see exactly how much you’re using and what it’s costing you; every pound, every pence.

Look back on what you have used

You’ll also be able to view your historic usage and compare with current data, making you more conscious about the energy you’re using – boiling a kettle costs more than you think!

Change your tariff

Smart Meters are clever and can be remotely configured to different tariffs and payment types. So if you want to switch from a single rate to an economy 7 rate or vice versa you can do so without an engineer having to visit your home.
